BetterQR vs Uniqode: which suits a small team?

BetterQR suits small teams tracking print placements: monthly billing from £11/month, a scan allowance that resets every month, and dynamic codes that keep redirecting if you cancel. If you need enterprise controls such as SSO, HIPAA or SOC 2 compliance, invoice billing or digital business cards, Uniqode (formerly Beaconstac) is the stronger fit.

What is the difference between BetterQR and Uniqode?

Uniqode, formerly Beaconstac, is a QR code and digital business card platform. Its site lists enterprise features such as SSO, two-factor authentication, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR and ISO compliance, integrations, forms and landing pages. BetterQR focuses on one job: dynamic QR codes for print and out-of-home advertising, with scan analytics per placement so you can see which poster, flyer or billboard worked.

Uniqode does have plans below enterprise level, starting with Essential at $9/month billed yearly. The bigger differences for a small team are how you are billed, how scans are counted and how many people can use an account.

How do the plans compare?

Uniqode's prices are in US dollars and BetterQR's are in pounds, so we haven't converted them. Its plan cards now use the names Essential, Core, Plus and Business+, while its FAQ still uses older plan names.

Is Uniqode only for enterprises?

No. Essential is $9/month and Core $49/month, both billed yearly. But several terms favour larger buyers. All plans are annual. Essential and Core are single-user, so a second person means moving to Plus at $99/month or Business+. Custom domains start as an add-on on Plus, and its FAQ limits invoice billing to Business+.

For a small brand or a two-person agency, those terms matter more than the headline price. BetterQR's paid plans can be paid monthly, Pro is £11/month and Business is £99/month with 3 team members. Full limits are on the pricing page.

How are scans counted?

Uniqode's FAQ says scan limits reset annually, and if you run low you upgrade to a higher plan and pay the difference. Essential includes 50,000 scans a year. BetterQR Pro includes 50,000 scans a month, so the same number of codes gets twelve times the scan allowance.

Annual resets can suit steady, year-round use. They are less predictable for seasonal print campaigns. Say a festival poster run gets most of its year's scans in six weeks: with an annual allowance that burst counts against the whole year, while a monthly allowance resets after the busy month.

What happens to Uniqode codes if you cancel?

Uniqode's FAQ is direct about this: “If you decide to cancel your subscription, your QR Codes will become inactive.” It also says dynamic codes created on the free trial become inactive when the trial ends, and that “for your QR Codes to work, the account linked to them has to stay active.” Static codes keep working.

That is normal for dynamic codes, which depend on the provider's redirect. BetterQR works differently: if you cancel, your account reverts to the Free plan and your dynamic codes keep redirecting. What you lose is access to their scan analytics. Our guide to codes that don't expire explains the difference between static and dynamic codes.

Which tracks print placements better?

Both tools can give each placement its own dynamic code. BetterQR is built around that workflow: codes grouped into campaigns, placements compared side by side by scans and time of day, UTM parameters on destinations for Google Analytics 4, and print-ready PDF and EPS files from Pro. Business adds location and device tracking, CSV export and bulk upload when you need one code per venue. See OOH attribution for small brands for the setup.

Uniqode goes wider: forms and landing pages to capture leads at the scan, integrations with other tools, and digital business cards for sales teams.

Can you ask an AI about your scans in BetterQR or Uniqode?

In BetterQR, yes. Business and Enterprise include two AI features, both in beta. The in-app assistant answers plain-English questions such as “which poster got the most scans last week?” or “where are people scanning the bus shelter codes?”, draws the chart, and can draft new QR codes, campaigns or a CSV report for you to confirm.

The remote MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible assistants read your QR codes, campaigns and scan data, so you can ask about a campaign from the assistant you already use. It is read-only and connects through a sign-in you approve. While both features are in beta, access is on request.

Uniqode has AI too. Its assistant, Una, is on every plan and covers analytics insights and creating codes, forms and pages. Its MCP server works with Claude only for now, needs the Plus plan or above, and exposes scan analytics. BetterQR's MCP server works with Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible assistants.

When is BetterQR the better choice?

  • You want to pay monthly rather than commit for a year.
  • Your codes get a lot of scans. BetterQR Pro allows 50,000 scans a month, where Uniqode Essential allows 50,000 a year.
  • Your codes are going into print. If you cancel, BetterQR dynamic codes keep redirecting.
  • Two or three people need access without moving to a top-tier plan. BetterQR Business includes 3 team members.
  • You run print or out-of-home campaigns and want reports built around placements and campaigns.

When is Uniqode the better choice?

Uniqode is the better choice if:

  • You need security and compliance paperwork. Uniqode lists SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR and ISO, plus SSO and 2FA.
  • You want digital business cards alongside QR codes. Uniqode's first card is free, with Team plans priced per user.
  • You want to try dynamic codes before paying. Uniqode offers a 14-day free trial; BetterQR's free plan only makes static codes.
  • You need hundreds of codes and can pay yearly. Core includes 250 dynamic codes for $49/month billed yearly.
  • You want an AI assistant on an entry plan. Una is included on every Uniqode plan.
  • You need invoice billing or multiple custom domains, which Uniqode offers on Business+.
  • You prefer a longer refund window. Uniqode offers a 30-day money-back guarantee against BetterQR's 14 days.

How do I move from Uniqode to BetterQR?

Printed dynamic codes can't be transferred between providers, because the short link inside them belongs to the original provider. Keep existing codes active while those prints are in use, and use BetterQR for new or reprinted placements. Check each new code with the QR code tester before printing.

How did we check these details?

We read Uniqode's public pricing page, FAQ and help centre on 20 October 2026. Where its FAQ and plan cards disagree, we have used the plan cards. If anything here is out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.
