BetterQR vs QR Code Generator PRO: pricing and what happens when you cancel
BetterQR Pro is £11/month for 15 dynamic codes and 50,000 scans a month, billed monthly, and your dynamic codes keep redirecting if you cancel. QR Code Generator PRO says its links pause when you stop paying. If you need dozens or hundreds of dynamic codes on an annual contract, its Advanced and Professional plans offer more codes per euro.

What is QR Code Generator PRO?
QR Code Generator PRO is the paid product at qr-code-generator.com, one of the best-known QR code sites. Its footer lists Bitly Europe under “About us”. It offers dynamic QR codes with scan tracking, bulk creation and an API, on three self-serve plans plus Enterprise.
BetterQR is built for print and out-of-home advertising: one dynamic code per placement, scans compared per placement and per campaign, and codes that keep working after you cancel.
How do the plans compare?

What happens to QR Code Generator PRO codes when you stop paying?
They stop redirecting. QR Code Generator's own blog says trial codes “deactivate automatically when the trial period finishes” and that “if you stop paying, the links pause”. It adds that you can typically reactivate them by renewing or upgrading.
Most dynamic code providers work this way. A dynamic code contains a short link on the provider's domain, and the provider forwards each scan to your page. If the provider stops forwarding, the printed code stops working. The problem comes when people print trial codes on menus or packaging without realising the code depends on a subscription. Our guide to codes that don't expire covers this in detail.
What happens to BetterQR codes when you cancel?
BetterQR's pricing FAQ says you can cancel at any time, keep paid features until the end of your billing period, and then your account reverts to the Free plan. Your dynamic codes keep redirecting to wherever they point, so nothing in print breaks. What you lose is access to their scan analytics, and you can't create new dynamic codes beyond the new plan's limits.
BetterQR's dynamic codes still run through BetterQR's redirect, like any provider's. If you want a code that works with no account at all, use a static code. BetterQR's free plan makes unlimited static codes, and the free generator needs no sign-up.
Is QR Code Generator PRO cheaper than BetterQR?
At the entry level, BetterQR gives more. Starter is €8/month paid annually for 2 dynamic codes and 10,000 scans, while BetterQR Pro is £11/month for 15 dynamic codes and 50,000 scans a month, billed monthly if you prefer.
Further up, QR Code Generator PRO gives more codes for the money. Advanced is €15/month billed annually for 50 dynamic codes and unlimited scans, and Professional is €40/month billed annually for 250. BetterQR Business is £99/month for 75 dynamic codes. If you need 50 or more codes and are happy to commit for a year, QR Code Generator PRO is likely cheaper.
Note the contract terms. QR Code Generator's FAQ says you need to give notice 30 days before the end of the billing cycle, and you can only downgrade after the first contract period.
Which tracks print placements better?
Both let you give each placement its own dynamic code. BetterQR is designed around comparing them: codes grouped into campaigns, placements compared side by side by scans and time of day, UTM parameters on destinations for Google Analytics 4, and print-ready PDF and EPS files from Pro. Business adds location and device tracking, CSV export and bulk upload from a spreadsheet. The billboard tracking guide shows the setup.
Can you ask an AI about your scans in BetterQR or QR Code Generator PRO?
In BetterQR, yes. Business and Enterprise include two AI features, both in beta. The in-app assistant answers plain-English questions such as “which poster got the most scans last week?” or “where are people scanning the bus shelter codes?”, draws the chart, and can draft new QR codes, campaigns or a CSV report for you to confirm.
The remote MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible assistants read your QR codes, campaigns and scan data, so you can ask about a campaign from the assistant you already use. It is read-only and connects through a sign-in you approve. While both features are in beta, access is on request.
QR Code Generator PRO's pricing page doesn't list an AI assistant or an MCP server on any plan, and we couldn't find one elsewhere on its site. Its homepage promotes AI analytics as part of Bitly, its parent company, which is a separate product.
When is BetterQR the better choice?
- Your codes are going into print. BetterQR dynamic codes keep redirecting if you cancel, so a menu or flyer can't stop working because a payment lapsed.
- You need up to 15 dynamic codes and want to pay monthly. Starter gives you 2.
- You want to cancel when you like, without a 30-day notice period.
- You want free static codes that never depend on a subscription.
- You run print or out-of-home campaigns and want reports built around placements and campaigns.
- You want to ask an AI about your scans. BetterQR Business includes an in-app assistant and an MCP server, both in beta.
When is QR Code Generator PRO the better choice?
QR Code Generator PRO is the better choice if:
- You need 50 to 250 dynamic codes and can pay annually. Advanced and Professional give more codes per month of cost than BetterQR Business.
- You want to try dynamic codes before paying. It offers a 14-day free trial; BetterQR's free plan only covers static codes.
- You need unlimited scans on a mid-priced plan. Advanced lists unlimited scans.
- You need bulk creation and API requests with set monthly allowances, which Advanced and Professional list.
How do I move codes from QR Code Generator PRO to BetterQR?
Printed dynamic codes can't be moved between providers, because the short link inside them belongs to the original provider. Keep existing codes active until those prints are retired, and use BetterQR for new or reprinted placements. Test each new code with the QR code tester before it goes to print.
How did we check these details?
We read QR Code Generator's public pricing page and its blog article on code expiry on 20 October 2026, and linked both under the table. We haven't tested its paid plans ourselves. If anything is out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.
